UCGIS Fellow Benefits

What is the benefit of advancing to UCGIS Fellow? Currently, the benefits number at least four:

  1. Fellows receive an exclusive and impressive Fellow wall plaque, which is included with a distinctive Fellow pin and ready-made press release sent to all newly elected Fellows.
  2. Increased visibility as a UCGIS Fellow, evidenced by a news column in the UCGIS newsletter, containing bios and pictures of newly elected Fellows.
  3. (Enhanced amenities at the UCGIS Summer Assembly and Winter Meetings, including a distinctive lanyard and nametag.
  4. Recognition as a leader in the geographic information science and technology profession, who has attained distinction and has made an ongoing commitment to – and to supporting UCGIS’s leadership in – the profession.

Signatures

Does the nomination or reference form need to be signed? Yes, signatures are required.

Adhere to Space Limitations

What size font should I use? Font size should be no smaller than 10 point. A nomination will not be accepted if a smaller font or reduction of copy to fit more words in the space provided is used.

Handwritten Documents

Can the nomination and/or reference forms be handwritten? Handwritten documents will not be accepted.

Deadline Date

How flexible is the 31 October deadline? The deadline is not flexible.

Faxes

May the nomination and/or reference forms be faxed? Faxes are not acceptable.

Self-nomination

May I nominate myself for Fellow grade? No, self-nomination is not permitted.

Insufficient References

I am nominating a candidate this year, but I don’t have the required number of supporting letters. May I serve as reference? No, the nominator may not serve as a reference.

New Fellows Announcement

When are the newly elected Fellows announced? Newly elected Fellows are announced at the UCGIS Winter Meeting in Washington DC commonly in early February.

Elected Fellows

How many new UCGIS Fellows may be recommended each year? The total number of new Fellow recommendations in any one year will not exceed six individuals.
